Winter Offerings for Cultivating Stillness, Joy, and Rest

It finally happened. My world received snow!!! A delight to the senses, and also an invitation from Winter herself to slow things down, to get cozy, and to soak in the light that is here right now.

Slow down.
Slow down.
Slow down.

Soak in the feeling of all that is here right now.
Find rest.
Find peace.
Find joy.

Oh, but sometimes I’m not so good at that “resting” part. For, with this latest snowstorm, where you’re more likely to find me is out in the forest, running and hiking, moving through forest and up and down through the mountains. In motion as I move my body in connection to this glorious, glittering land.

But then I come home,
And I listen to that whisper of winter:
Now, slow it down.
Nourish.
Settle.
Relax.
Replenish.

The truth is, every moment of life is a balance. It’s not a static, fixed balance, but a dynamic one. We weave in and out - movement, stillness.

The problem is that our world is fixated on movement. If you aren’t stressed and overworked, filling every moment with “doing,” then you’re lazy, and you’re failing.

This narrative needs to die out.

In its place, I offer a path into deepening presence: an ability to listen, and to know what is calling you in this moment:

  • what does your body need?
  • what does your nervous system need?
  • what does your heart need?
  • what does your mind need?

Do you need action: “doing” as you move, as you think, as you work?
Or, do you need slowing, or a settling into full stillness?

Please know that the answers to these questions are not all-or-none. Rather, it is a dance, a weaving as you listen, inwards and outwards, for what is needed most.

The ability to listen inward - to your whole Self - and to respond with aligned action that best supports your needs and desires. And, the ability to open up your senses, and to receive all the intelligent ways that your surroundings are guiding you in a collective weaving. To listen, inwards and outwards, and to align as you discern and act with the greatest of skills possible to you in the moment. This is the practice, and this is the path.

The Gifts of Winter

I hear you. We don’t all love winter. But for those who do, we are eager to share the gifts of the moment - especially when that moment reveals a glistening forest floor surrounding my humble abode.

And, in celebration, I wanted to share with you several winter offerings that I have created in the past two years.

In alignment with winter, these conversations and practices have to do with:

  • stillness
  • peace
  • joy
  • and more

What is here for you as you enter into the magical energy of winter?
What is here for you?

Hey friends, Happy New Year. The beginning of a whole new opportunity to situate ourselves in the reality we live in: to see clearly what is here, real and true to know our role within all of it to be as discerning and loving as possible as we navigate the wild nature of it all To help support you in this endeavor, I have been hard at work over the past many years searching for the teachings (especially the embodied practices) that can help you to know thyself, and to heal as you otherwise...

In case you missed it, you can read that announcement here. I recommend that you do, because it has important information regarding what is to come. With this email, what I want to do is introduce you more formally to the grounds of the embodiment work we will be focused on in the upcoming months (and years), and to offer a special opportunity...
