Exploring Embodiment | Practice that aligns for YOU! 🌲🧘‍♀️🩷

Embodiment. What is it, and what is it not?

Embodiment continues to be a hot subject, and for good reason! The way that society has a history of stripping us out of our bodies, taking away our humanity as we are seen for our utility, and not our inherent worth: it is a darkest of tragedies.

Reclaiming our world begins with reclaiming our bodies. It begins with healing internal wounds. It begins with reclaiming feeling and emotion.

But this is not the full picture!

I teach embodiment through The Embodied Path, and the first piece is grounding. We have to be able to bring our attention and awareness out of all of the places that our world holds it (social media, television, work). We also have to take it down out of our own ruminating thoughts. From here, we have to ground it down into feeling, and into the other energies present within our bodies.

It is an important first piece! It is not the full picture.

As we walk The Embodied Path, we realize that embodiment is actually a skill that has to do with attention and awareness.

Sometimes this is placed within self. There may be an emotion here to be felt. There may be a wound here to be noticed. There may be an intuition that is making its way from gut to mind!

Other times, this attention or awareness is pulled out of body! Go out into the world! See! Hear! Notice what is unfolding out there!

Most of the time, embodiment is a practice of holding some level of attention and awareness within and without! That is, as you notice what is happening out there, what are you feeling, or otherwise experiencing within?

The Embodied Path Continues....

At the beginning of 2026, I started teaching The Embodied Path through 11 Embodiment Practices that serve the foundation of your healing and awakening. Thus far, we have made it through practice #5.

We will continue onward with Practice #6 shortly. In the meantime, take some time to peruse the archives. What practice has resonated for you most fully?

What do you find to be the easiest? What is the most challenging?

Embodiment has to be practiced

I used to get this so wrong. As a star student brought up through the American public school system, and later as a scientist and researcher studying the world outside of me, I used to practice embodiment through a cognitive mode. That is, I would read and think about it! I might even talk about it. But I did not practice it.

That is, I did not bring my attention and awareness down into my body. I couldn't! I did not know how.

After more than a decade of study combined with a vast amount of trial and error, I learned how embodiment practice takes patience. It is not one-size-fits all. We have to be patient with ourselves as we find the practices that align for each of us.

Today, I teach embodiment in a way that is aimed at meeting each person where they are at. For some, it is easy to jump into a full length yoga class, closing out the world as attention is held within. For others, is might look like a walk in nature, perhaps catching notice of a single breath going deeper within: a single moment of feeling as foot crunches down on Earth.

Embodiment looks different for each of us, and we each need practices that meet us where we are at.

Hi there, Every Autumn, our lands go through a magical, profound transition as they experience it all: The peak, culmination, and the ability to shine colors in a way that sets our very hearts afire! The release: the letting go, the laying to rest, the transition into rest, slumber, and the rejuvenation that comes from this space...

Hi there, Woah you guys, what a time! First I ran 100 miles, then an Aries Full Moon hit. Now I am in the final 2 weeks of prep for my wedding!! Talk about big energy! Through it all, Autumn has arrived in full force. Not only did the leaves decide to change early, but the wild tides of climate change have also brought a torrent of rain to the high desert here in New Mexico. Things are wonky. That means things are shifting! Everything is shifting, isn't it? And if you find yourself clinging...

Embodiment. It means a lot of things depending on who you ask. For me, it's simple: Em - bodiment: Being in conscious connection to all parts of self (most notably, those parts of self that have been consciously cut off in your body). To understand this, you have to understand that hundreds (and even thousands) of years of colonialization have embedded these ways of being where we are actively taught to keep our attention outward. Don't pay attention to body. That's weakness. That's sin....
